and tethers are suitable for virtually any tool. Hard hats, radios, hand tools, even tools weighing up to 80 lbs!
What is safe to put on a person?
We recommend never to attach any individual tool weighing over 5 lbs (2.3kg) to a person working at height. While some tool lanyards are capable of handling more than 5 lbs, loads greater than this increase the risk of pulling a person over a ledge if a drop occurs.
When working with tools that weigh more than 5 lbs, the tool should be secured to a fixed structure that is safe to tether from. It is also critical that an appropriate tether is used that is capable of handling the load of the attached tool. Furthermore, if using an
Attachment Point, the Attachment Point must be load rated to handle the attached tool.
Never exceed the load rating of a Tether or Attachment Point
When using our Tether and/or Attachment Point, it is critical to never exceed the load rating of any individual component.
In other words, if using a tether that is load rated for 5 lbs, and an attachment point that is load rated for 2 lbs, the load rating of the lesser of the two components should never be exceeded. In this example, a tool weighing less than 2 lbs should be used.
Likewise, if an attachment point has a higher load rating than a tool lanyard, be sure that the load rating of the tool lanyard is not exceeded.
3M™ DBI-SALA® Attachment Points and Tool Lanyards should be used together
